This is one of the worst aspects of the response to CoVid. There was a recent study showing that there was a 20% increase in child hospitalizations due to suicide attempts. Not those who would normally be hospitalized for such things. It’s over and above what would normally have been seen.

What we did to children was horrific. But we kept hearing “Kids are resilient”.

Great stuff. Congrats on getting your voiced heard on that stage. And, as you say, it is a stage. A theater production. Democrat talking points on Covid are so galactically stupid aren't they? Mfume is a complete moron, incapable of anything besides sophistry, but he is talking to his base, not to you. He is reassuring the idiot rabble that no, it's not their fault they panicked and cowardly called me a grandma killer for arguing that my children should be allowed to go to school. Unmasked, even... Cue the gasps!

Democrat talking points are galactically stupid because what the public desired in May 2020 (shut it all down!!!) was galactically stupid. There's no way around that, and the human ego will not allow them to accept it. So they have to keep up this charade forever. Or until we let them quietly drop it like it never happened.

Tough break on that one, jerks.

Thank you for testifying! It is maddening to me that so many Americans reject the evidence from Europe. In Switzerland, where I live, schools were closed for six weeks beginning in mid-March but totally open thereafter, for the entire duration of the pandemic. In addition, Switzerland did not require masks on children under age 12 (age 9 in a couple of cantons). There were no outbreaks traced back to the schools. Zero. Nada.

And yet when I would tell US friends about what was happening in Switzerland, people would dismiss the evidence, saying the evidence wasn’t relevant because Switzerland is small (true) and homogenous (not true: about 25 percent of people living here are immigrants, and Switzerland has more racial and religious diversity than most parts of the US).

I don’t get how being small and homogenous would impact the infection rate anyway. If anything, Switzerland’s size made it more vulnerable; it is as densely populated as NJ (the most densely populated state) and it has a slightly older average population than the US average, so you would think it would have had more infections and deaths.

And yet, in spite of being densely populated; in spite of having the second-worst infection rate at the start of the pandemic, before vaccines and with an immunologically naive population; in spite of keeping schools and businesses open for all but the first six weeks of the pandemic; Switzerland’s per capita death rate was less than half that of the US, and with no economic suffering or loss of education for kids.

It seems to me that we could learn a lot from how Switzerland handled the pandemic. The more people like like you who speak up, the better decisions we will make in future pandemics.

LA teachers just had a three-day strike to support the staff members of the district. That they really supported the staff's cause is as believable as closures were all about the kids. The educational system is just a bloated flabby bureaucracy serving special interests. Like any bloated bureaucracy, the 'purpose' for which it was started morphs into being the food that perpetuates its existence - the kids are the food being consumed. But I always say follow the money. I don't even think it is just the union heads, though they are powerful. I believe the ones pulling the strings are the entities controlling the pension plans.

Mfume raking in lots of money from the teacher's unions. Teachers unions who gleefully celebrated abusing children. Exactly right, it's performative reading at these hearings. Mfume can't alliterate nor can he write.

Unfortunately, every cause becomes a grift, and public education is no different. They saw an opportunity to leverage the pandemic to increase their grift, and they could not resist doing so. Very sad, but not surprising in the least.

Mfume was also ignoring the evidence in fall 2020 here, in the states that had kids back in classrooms, either fully or for the most part.

It's all insane. That is about the only thing one can say about this period we are living through. To what end remains to be seen.
